Leon Byrd

byrd-leon1Leon Byrd received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His credentials include:

  • 25 years as a machinist
  • Vision system programing, integration and installation
  • Cognex Certifications
  • ControlLogix training

Specific Experience in:

  • Insight Systems
  • PLC Logic Programming
  • Electrical Design
  • Mechanical Design

Most Challenging Vision System Project:

  • Leak Detection: “We were looking at pouches that developed leaks during manufacturing.  We created a vision system that allowed for the detection of leaks by using line scan cameras and ultra violet light. This efficiently detected the leaking fluorescing product. ”

Professional Motivation

“I am most passionate about designing automated equipment from a mechanical and electrical controls perspective,” says Byrd,” I find it fascinating to see how a vision system can be used to capture defects that cannot be detected with the human eye.”  He takes pride in implementing detection at high speeds.
